Project Update October 4, 2006

The body work on the Camaro is done, it will see one more block sanding prior to sealer when at the body shop. It should be in the shop within the next week or two. The latest part of the project includes preparing the door hinges, hood hinges, other small brackets, window tracks, glass and other parts for installation once the car has been completed. The car will be painted in pieces so that there is no tape lines. Once the body is assembled it will return home where all other parts will be installed: wiring, interior etc. There also has been a major change in color. Although I love green, the House of Kolor green I like would cost me $1800.00 just for the paint and I could not justify that, so I went to my short list of colors and there was one that jumped out, that being Chevrolet code 72 Hugger Orange. The car will have a white tail wrap and single 15 inch wide stripe that will run the entire length of the car, over the roof, hood etc. It will be similar to the blue 1969 Camaro pictured below, however it will NOT have the fender hockey stripes.

Here are some of the last body work pictures that were taken.

Well here are the most recent pictures, the car is ready to jamb. The stripe will be the same that was used on Baldwin Motion Camaros and be about 15 inches wide. Here are some recent pictures of the car, progress will be slowed as I just broke my ankle and leg surfing a local beach break, last Sunday.

Project Update April 12, 2006

It is time to pick a color, the car has been blocked out quite a few times now, and in alot of respects is better than when it was new. Countless hours have been spent removing small waves and dings, some of them which were factory. The car will now be primed for the last time, then be jambed, though I still have to pick a color. Here are some of the more recent pictures.

The window moldings have just been inset and fit and the last of the new trim parts have been purchased or are about to be. The car has been primed, sprayed with black guide coat and re-primed again many times. Within that process minor body work is done, in order to get the car as straight as possible. I have been working on the final body work about 3-4 days a week for the last couple of months.

Project Update February 8, 2006

Scroll down to read the complete vehicle build specifications. The car is now being block sanded which is a long and repetitive process. Any and all small dings or imperfections in the car are being chased. They are fixed, then sprayed with a dusting of black paint, then re-sanded. After the car is re-sanded, anywhere the black paint remains indicates a low spot or other imperfections.

There was a high spot on the roof, which took weeks to get out entirely. While doing other body work, I had to continually sand and re-skim the area with glazing puddy. Also even though all the body panels are new, does not mean they are perfect. There were waves, dimples and high spots that needed to be removed.

The pictures below are the most recent, though further down on the page you can see where the car was sprayed with the black dust coat and also other steps of the body work. In the far right thumbnail below this text you can see where a low spot has been worked out of the new GM factory quarter panel, it was slight, however to me, would have been visible. The last thumbnail shows a shot of the roof where there was once a bubble that sat 1/2 inch above the roof line. It is near perfect now, or rather as perfect as it will get.

Here are some other pictures of the transmission mount. I recently was contacted by someone who ironically was doing the same swap, a ZF 6 speed from a Corvette into a 67 Camaro. I came across some other roll cage pictures so figured I would throw them online as well.
